Not the “both deeply and rightly worried about climate change” thing.
No, I’m thinking about … cricket.
Shane Warne (we are not worthy, we are not worthy) reckons Bangladesh should be demoted from playing Test cricket (against Australia, Pakistan, England etc) because they always lose and that sets up a bad mentality and expectation.
Could not the same be said of the Green Party in certain, um, large northern cities?
Now, you can argue that a political party can’t not contest elections, because it would lose its function. Hmm. I would say that there are other ways of winning besides getting 51% of the council seats out of – to pick a number at random – 96.
And the main one is, having the reigning political party both stealing and IMPLEMENTING green (or even Green) policies.
That’s an almost impossible task of course, but less impossible than winning council seats in a first-past-the-post system.
