So, at work (in our lunchbreak!) we were playing “shithead” (that game where someone writes the name of a celebrity/known person on a bit of paper and then sticks it on your forehead and you have to guess who it is via “yes/no” questions (am I male? Am I n entertainment?).
And it emerged that only one of the four – all of whom had university educations – could say what George Osborne’s role in the Coalition Government is (“Chancellor” officially, stabvest for Dave Cameron in reality).
I shouldn’t be surprised. Pluralism predicts this, and as my doctor friend says “the ignorance is outstanding.” And these are good, nice people. But if there’s that level of incuriosity etc among the middle-classes, god help us all.
Or am I missing something?
