When your friends cancel elections, you have to make a choice. Stand or fold

Noam Chomsky says that there are basically two positions on Freedom of Speech. You’re either for it or against it. If you’re only in favour of freedom of speech for your friends, then you’re NOT in favour of freedom of speech.

Similarly, if you claim to be in favour of elections, and democratic accountability, of transparency, but then are willing to let a friend/colleague/business-partner/whatever just trash all of those things, repeatedly, for years, well, then maybe you’re NOT in favour of those things.

Just saying.

* Of course, Chomsky also says that you are responsible for the predictable consequences of your actions. So, we will see.
