How do you make the gods laugh?

You tell them your plans.

You don’t plan to get flat tires/punctures/broken axles (literal or metaphorical), but when they come, boy do they knock you sideways.

It comes back to the planning fallacy – when we are judging how long someone else will need to do a job, we factor in distractions, accidents, foul-ups.  When we are “judging” how long it will take us to do the same job, we ascribe to ourselves superhuman levels of prescience, concentration, luck etc.  And we are, of course, wrong…

So, I may yet scrunch up that list of 2013 resolutions/projects/etc and throw the damn paper in the bin.  Probably good for my health…
