The climate “movement” is still in pieces, having pinned all its hopes on a global deal at Copenhagen (UNFCCC 2009).
Local government is in pieces, cut to shreds by the austerity axes. In my city the “Implementation Plan” has become a kind of running joke (not a funny one) – always promised, never delivered. Part of that is due to staffing cuts.
Business was never going to get on board around climate change unless there was long, loud legal signals. The opportunities for free-riding and greenwashing were just too tempting.
So, no Copenhagen, no movement, no government, no business stuff.
Either we “tech out,” which is singularly unlikely, or there better be a benevolent and interventionist god after all. Just sayin’.
