They told, in disbelief, of a servant&#039;s relative who came and chopped down a fruit tree &quot;not even near a fence - right in the middle of our yard&quot; as fire wood.   I think they were very blind to the element of political theatre in that... We see what we want to, what we need to.  And we don&#039;t see the Other as having their own logic, their own cosmology.  We find it very hard to be &quot;bi-cognitive&quot; or even &quot; bi-cultural&quot;.  And as for understanding across species boundaries. Well, westerners I think gave up on that in the aftermath of Descartes....]]></description>
