I read a big chunk of her detailed biography, and saw a part of a long film about her, and there was quite a bit about her animosity with Goebbels, and her securing independence from his oversight by direct access to Hitler because of it. It seems to me that Sontag&#039;s treatment bristles with the sort of anti-Nazi propaganda she deplores in Leni&#039;s pro-Nazi propaganda.

But then, I am a contrarian, so...

I grew up on anti-Nazi propaganda among people many of whom were themselves compromised and so covered themselves in its mantle. When I wanted to finally understand what Nazism meant to the Germans, viscerally, I turned to Leni&#039;s films. I am grateful they exist.]]></description>
