I have had enough of meetings where the “audience” is there as silent applauders or absorbers of information. They’ve made the effort to come out, their questions should be heard, their desire to connect with like-minded people cherished and given (lots of) time and space. If they want information, they can watch a youtube video, no?
But organisers of meetings want to feed the egos of their visiting speakers, and fear losing “control” of a process. So top down, yak yak yak followed by q and a is supposed to be the way we inspire people to become activists. Gee, don’t you think it would be, you know, working by now? Time to get some new repertoires? Just sayin’…
